I appreciate Gumroad’s efforts to improve, but this new functionality raises some concerns.
1. Who is the target audience—clients or creators?
2. The previous separate apps for Library and Creator Sales were ideal, attracting creators from other platforms with a simple, intuitive user experience. Combining them was understandable but less ideal. Adding the "discover" feature introduces competition within the app, discouraging sellers from promoting it. This complicates the app and diminishes its appeal.
Is "discover" beneficial for clients or just an advertisement? Is the app a learning environment or an e-commerce store? User-focused features are generally better received than those perceived as company-focused.
This app damages its attractiveness to creators, who might even want to hide it from their clients to prevent exposure to competitors. Clients may also feel the app is "salesy and noisy" when they are trying to learn. This might bring short-term sales for Gumroad but could affect long-term relationships in running a business.
